Leadership Team

W. Scott Hankins - President & CEO

After eight years with SunTrust Bank in Atlanta, Scott Hankins joined the firm in 1988. He and Randy Shaw purchased the company from Randy's father, James H. Shaw. Jr. in 1998 and the Shaw Agency became ShawHankins.

In 2010, Scott Hankins purchased the balance of the firm and became the sole owner of ShawHankins, LLC.

A graduate of Georgia State University with a BBA degree in Management, he specializes in employee benefit plan consulting, such as group medical, dental, life, disability income and vision plans. Scott works closely with our clients to develop web-based solutions for increased efficiencies and improved communications in their health and welfare plans.

Scott is a member of the NFP Benefits Partners Advisory Council and serves on the Georgia Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Scott is a graduate of Leadership Georgia, a Past-Chairman of the Board of the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce and a Past-Chairman of Forward Bartow.

Scott is the broker for most of our larger clients and his area of specialty is public entities, currently managing our relationship with most of these organizations.


Randolph G. Shaw, CLU

Randy Shaw has spent over 36 years working closely with clients on their medical, dental, life, disability and other insurance needs. With extensive knowledge in life insurance and disability income, Randy is known for his unique ability to work with clients and their employees. Randy has a natural talent for communicating very technical insurance information into everyday common language.

He began his insurance career by joining The Shaw Agency, in 1974 and worked with his father James H. Shaw, Jr., founder. After his father died in 1998, Randy and Scott Hankins purchased the firm, known today as ShawHankins.

After graduating from Clemson University, Randy was commissioned in the U.S. Army through ROTC. Randy spent two years in the service before joining the firm.

Randy holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Clemson University and is a Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) from The American College, in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Additionally, he attended the Institute of Insurance Marketing at Louisiana State University, and received advanced training in life and disability income protection.

 

Mike Murphy - Chief Financial Officer

Mike joined the team in 2006 and is responsible for financial and administrative operations. He brings several years of experience in finance, strategy and process improvement from the corporate office of The Home Depot.

A native to Long Island, New York, Mike moved to Georgia after serving for five years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Kennesaw State University and an MBA in Finance at Georgia State University. Additionally, he is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA), was Six Sigma Green Belt at The Home Depot and is a Certified Six Sigma Black Belt from Georgia Tech.

In the local community, Mike serves as the 2010 Chairman of the Board for The Etowah Scholarship Foundation. Additionally, he serves as the Treasurer of the Cartersville/Bartow County Exchange Club and serves on the board of directors at the First Presbyterian Preschool in Cartersville, Georgia. Mike is a graduate of Leadership Bartow through the Cartersville/Bartow Chamber of Commerce.

 

Bart Shaw - Sales Manager

Bart joined ShawHankins after graduating from the University of Alabama in 2003. His first 18 months on the job were spent learning and understanding the importance of superior service for all ShawHankins clients.

Bart moved into the sales division where his main areas of focus are group medical, dental, disability income and life insurance sales. As our Sales Manager his responsibilities include tracking industry trends, coordinating carrier education meetings and conducting annual enrollment/education meetings.

Bart serves on several community and charitable board of directors. He is active in the Cartersville-Bartow County Chamber of Commerce and is a member of our Leadership Team.

 

Bethany Weightman - Sales Support Manager

Bethany is the Manager of our Sales Support department and is responsible for managing the department that compiles client data, negotiates rates with carriers, and analyzes client liability for medical and ancillary lines on new business. Additionally, they help facilitate and manage renewals for existing clients and analyze plans on a self-funded verses fully-insured basis for both medical and ancillary lines.

After joining ShawHankins in 2004, Bethany worked in several areas of the firm before moving to the Sales Support department. Bethany has played an important role on ShawHankins' Client Database Analysis Team where she has collaborated on the development of an internal client information database to accurately input and manage client demographic and enrollment data.

Bethany's six years of ongoing experience in the fitness and wellness industry allows her to bring insight to the implementation of wellness programs into the workplace as well as analyzing the cost advantages to employers to introduce consumer driven products to employees.

Bethany graduated with honors from Georgia Highlands College with an Associate Business Degree in Accounting and is a Georgia Health & Life Agent. Her background lies in financial analysis as she came to ShawHankins from a CPA firm where she implemented and maintained an innovative online account management system.
