ShawHankins technology team recently attended the annual bswift Summit that brought together many healthcare technology professionals, carriers and product specialists to discuss important topics facing the insurance industry: Affordable Care Act reporting, analytics for consumers and cyber security. On Tuesday May 10th, ShawHankins hosted the 2nd Annual Healthcare/ACA Summit at the Roam Galleria in Atlanta.
The Summit was well attended and focused on upcoming ACA changes, HIPPA, FMLA, and the impact of telemedicine. Presenters were Jill Brooking, VP of Compliance at NFP and Brian Latkowski Executive VP with New Benefits. This was Jill’s second year as a presenter and was welcomed back to her home state of Georgia!
The primary focus of the summit was how the ACA has evolved after the first year of reporting requirements and the impact it will have on future benefits design. Healthcare legislation and related legal cases were discussed to provide insight on items to avoid in the administration of employee benefits.
Brian spoke on Telemedicine and its proper role in the delivery of healthcare. Telemedicine highlights included its convenience of use, reduction in absenteeism, applicability to medical care access when traveling or on vacation, and its impact to reduce total healthcare cost/claims.
Attendees left feeling more informed and with a greater sense of awareness that the ACA has more hurdles for employers to overcome in the upcoming year of reporting.

Employees at both events were able to have biometric screenings which their measured glucose, total cholesterol, LDL/HDL, triglycerides, blood pressure and BMI. Biometric screenings are a great way to know your numbers, as several chronic health conditions may not present any physical symptoms. [read more »]
