ShawHankins was proud to host our annual educational Summit at The Forum at Roam this week. ShawHankins proudly welcomed seasoned professionals from a variety of resources to lead the education sessions. Oshinski, MetLife Senior Life & Disability Product Director, Ryan Taylor, Senior Account Executive and Julie Beecham, CEBS, RPA, GBA, Prudential Pathways Account Executive.
ShawHankins participated in the Georgia Associations of Health Underwriters, GAHU, annual Day at the Capitol in Atlanta on February 7, 2017. This event allows insurance agents, brokers, administrators, companies and legislators from across the state to come together to advocate for GAHU’s legislative initiatives. GAHU members help determine these initiatives.
On Tuesday May 10th, ShawHankins hosted the 2nd Annual Healthcare/ACA Summit at the Roam Galleria in Atlanta.
The Summit was well attended and focused on upcoming ACA changes, HIPPA, FMLA, and the impact of telemedicine. Presenters were Jill Brooking, VP of Compliance at NFP and Brian Latkowski Executive VP with New Benefits. This was Jill’s second year as a presenter and was welcomed back to her home state of Georgia!
The primary focus of the summit was how the ACA has evolved after the first year of reporting requirements and the impact it will have on future benefits design. Healthcare legislation and related legal cases were discussed to provide insight on items to avoid in the administration of employee benefits.
Brian spoke on Telemedicine and its proper role in the delivery of healthcare. Telemedicine highlights included its convenience of use, reduction in absenteeism, applicability to medical care access when traveling or on vacation, and its impact to reduce total healthcare cost/claims.
Attendees left feeling more informed and with a greater sense of awareness that the ACA has more hurdles for employers to overcome in the upcoming year of reporting.
